Random Bits + Newton Running Shoe review

In case you missed it yesterday, I posted a bunch of different recipes from my family Grub Club!

Today's post is filled with a lot of random things, but I just have to get them out there...

Random Thing #1: Pretty sure today is the last nice fall day we will have here in NW Wisconsin.  Good bye lovely fall weather, hello nasty, snowy, cold weather :(

I know I live in WI and should like snow since I live here, but the only thing I like about snow is the first snow fall because it's so pretty... after that it is just cold and yucky... okay, I will be done complaining about snow for the season. What is your favorite season? Mine is for sure summer, with fall and spring tied for second.

Random Thing #2: Yesterday on my run I ran past this sign...

I didn't stop right away since I was working out and had no money, but I made a mental note that I had to come back later to get one.  And come back I did!  The red velvet latte did not disappoint and this coffee shop, Sweet and Savory, is way cheaper than Starbucks.  I may need to start going here more often, sorry 'bucks you're too pricey.

Random Thing #3: YUCK! Look at what I found on my clothes in my laundry basket...

I absolute abhor bugs!  I never kill bugs and especially not spiders when my boyfriend is home or if I am with anyone else for that matter. But when I am by myself I have no choice but to kill it myself, because it creeps me out even more to think if I don't kill it, the bugger will still be crawling around.... ugh it makes me cringe just looking at this picture.

Random Thing #4: My book shelf is getting out of control!

I have even started an over flow pile...

I pretty much never purchase books at full price, so all the books I own are either from garage sales, borrowed from a friend or family member, or are from the gyms book exchange shelf.  My problem is not that I don't read, because I do, I love to read...my problem is that I like reading books from the library better than the ones I have at home.  I don't know why library books are more appealing to me than the ones I own, but I need to start chipping away at my book shelf.

Random Thing #5: I finally purchased my shoes from Newton Running!  If you remember earlier in October I won a gift certificate from Austin over at Enjoy the Ride to get some Newton Running shoes.  Well I finally cashed in on that and got these beauts...

Here are the details from the website....

I took them out for a little run yesterday and so far here's what I like and don't like about them....

Like that they're light weight
Like the color
Like that they're comfortable (after I get warmed up in them)

Don't like that they are no conducive to WI winter weather (notice the airy top of the shoe)
Don't like that it takes a while for my foot to get used to the extra material built into the forefoot (maybe that will change after running in them more)
Don't like that they're so expensive... granted I had a $100 gift certificate, if I wanted to buy a new pair I'd find it pretty hard to justify spending $155 on one pair of shoes.

Random Thing #6: Yesterday I ran way more than I planned. I head out the door at 9:15 am, my plan was to run until and to my 10 am yoga class.  The gym where my yoga class is located is about 1 mile away from my house (I know super nice!), so I ran that direction and then started a loop, well the loop was a little longer than I expected.  I not only ended up running farther than I planned, but I also ran faster than I ever do since I wanted to get to yoga on time!  I ended up running 5.11 miles in 43:38 and then ran the last mile home after 50 minutes of yoga.

  1. i hate living in WI for the winter...love everything else about it though. agree the first is the best and a light snow on Christmas doesn't hurt (as long as it doesn't ruin traveling plans!)

and that bug is DISGUSTING...ugh i shudder!
I have never heard of Sweet & Savory...is it downtown?
