February Check In

My February goal of keeping a food journal has been going very well so far! I think I have missed only one day. The weekends are the hardest,  which in sure it is for most keeping a food journal.  I've thrown some pictures of my journal that one of my staff members volunteered to make for me...it's awesome!

In other news I started at FitElite, the CrossFit box here! I'm just going though the essentials right now,  but I'm very excited for something new and challenging. ..and hopefully I'll meet some new people along the way! More on this later!

Lucky Number 13

As a Health & Fitness Coordinator goal setting is something I truly believe in!  For me goals are usually health and fitness related, but the great thing about goals is that they can be set for any aspect of your life...financial, emotional, physical, etc.

This year I decided to do my goals a little differently.  I have four large goals and then smaller monthly goals that will help me reach my bigger goals.  Here are the big four...

I will be coming up with a new goal at the end of each month for the upcoming month, so I can adjust things and tailor them to what I feel I need to work on.  Here's my January goal!

So far I have been successful with this, now just to keep it going until the end of the month...by then it should be an engrained habit, right?

Good luck striving towards your goals!

New Year Means New Goals

My friends and I really know how to bring in a new year!  Our night spent in the cities was a fantastic time and I couldn't have been more thankful to spend it with the people I did!

First kiss of the new year!

What did you do for New Years? Did you spend it with friends, family or both?

2012 GOALS
And with a new year comes new goals! I usually make some new years resolutions and they usually fall through within the first month, so I'm hoping with my blog I can look back on this post throughout the year and remind myself of my goals.

HEALTH- Get health insurance * Eat 6 servings of veggies & fruits a day (so hard for me at times) * Try 2 new recipes every month * Maintain my weight from last year
FITNESS- Run a marathon * Try new fitness classes * Run one race of every length (5K, 10K, half marathon, full marathon)
COMMUNITY- Get involved in the community through volunteer work (Girls On the Run, Races, etc.)
FAITH- Pray everyday * Go to church more often (that shouldn't be hard to beat from last year :-/ )
FAMILY- Visit my grandparents more than just at family events
EDUCATION- Keep my CSCS Certification current by completing my annual coursework

What are your New Years goals?

Point Proven = Workout Fail

I guess it's true what my professor and all the strength and conditioning literature I have read say when they tell you that you should not just give someone a workout from a well-trained athlete.  I found out first hand that this just doesn't work.  Now don't get me wrong, I know that you can't just hand any who-ha off the street a workout that someone well-trained does, however, that doesn't mean that I still don't like to try to see if I can't do it! Take a look...

Workout of an Olympic marathon runner
3 x 3 mins
@8 mph & 8.5% incline
@8.5 mph & 7.5% incline
@ 9 mph & 6.5% incline

My modified version (because I know I can't do the real deal)
3 x 3 mins
@7 mph & 7.5% incline
@7.5 mph & 6.5% incline
@8 mph & 5.5% incline

My actual workout (FAIL)
3 x 1:30 mins
@7 mph & 7.5% incline

3 x 1 min
@7.5 mph & 6.5% incline

1 x 1 min
@8 mph & 5.5% incline

Granted my actual workout was a total fail from what I wanted to do and what was on my fitness plan (I did 2 miles, planned to do 3... 1 mile short won't kill me), this was still a killer workout.  I was spent after this 25 minutes on the treadmill.  Now since I couldn't do it this time around, it is my goal to finish "my modified version" of the workout.  You'll be seeing this one again in the future! Try it out and let me know how far you can go!
